DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT

Florida Stage seeks a creative, energetic, and entrepreneurial Director of Development to provide strategic philanthropic leadership at a time when Florida Stage is expanding its artistic reach and institutional influence. Florida Stage is a 22 year old not-for-profit professional theatre that produces new works by both established and emerging playwrights. Its current home is a beautiful 250-seat theatre in Manalapan’s Plaza del Mar nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, just across the street from the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Palm Beach.

As the southeast’s largest theatre dedicated to producing exclusively new and developing work, Florida Stage is recognized both locally and nationally as a leader in its industry. Florida Stage has world premiered over 25 plays, half of which have had major productions around the country, and currently boasts over 6,000 subscribers.

Florida Stage has an annual operating budget of $4.1 million (Guidestar: 990 FY07) which has been reduced to $3.4 million in FY09. The projected contributed income need for this year is slightly over $1.5 million. Louis Tyrrell is the Producing Director; Nancy Barnett is the Managing Director of Florida Stage. The active Board of Trustees includes 23 individuals from Palm Beach County, representing a broad spectrum of community leadership from business, philanthropy, education, and the arts.

EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years of senior development and/or community relations experience in a nonprofit organization and a successful track record in individual and major giving. Strong interpersonal skills, excellent organizational ability, superior communication skills, both oral and written. A sophisticated understanding of the tools of fundraising, as well as the ability to work as part of a team and motivate others is necessary. Demonstrated success in soliciting and securing major gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations and government sources is essential. Knowledge of contact management systems, databases, research or other donor relations tools is needed, as are superior skills on the internet and with spreadsheets, donor/relationship software and word processing systems.
